ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Theatre Department presents ‘Rumors’
Gadsden, Ala. – The ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Theatre Program will present Rumors, a farcical comedy by Neil Simon, at 7 p.m. February 26–March 7 in the Inzer Hall Black Box Theatre on the Wallace Drive Campus.
First produced in 1988, Rumors centers on four couples attending a dinner party celebrating the tenth wedding anniversary of New York City’s Deputy Mayor, Charlie Brock, at his elegant Sneden’s Landing townhouse. When Charlie is discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and his wife, Myra, is nowhere to be found, the evening quickly descends into chaos. Although the injury is only a flesh wound, the guests concoct increasingly outrageous stories to conceal the scandal before the police arrive.
As the first guests—lawyer Ken Gorman and his wife, Chris—arrive, they desperately attempt to piece together “the story” before the remaining couples show up. With each new arrival, confusion and miscommunication multiply, propelling the night into classic farcical hilarity.
Known for its fast-paced dialogue, witty humor, and escalating misunderstandings, Rumors showcases Neil Simon at his comedic best.
“This is a show I had the privilege of performing in many years ago while I was in school, and it remains one of my greatest memories as a theatre student,” said Joe Fuselli, director of the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Theatre Program. “I hope our audiences and these actors enjoy it as much as I did.”
